In membrane filtration, fouling on the membrane surface significantly affects the permeate flux and separation performance due to physical clogging and concentration polarization. Conventional TFF (tangential flow filtration) technology mitigates fouling by creating turbulence on the membrane surface through high flow rates. In contrast, VMF (vibrational membrane filtration) technology reduces fouling using a vibration-based approach.
